10 killed, eight injured in Bauchi auto crash

No fewer than 10 people
were killed while eight
others sustained serious
injuries in an auto crash
along Bauchi— Gombe
federal highway yesterday.
Some of the victims were
from a condolence visit in
Jigawa State. The crash was
said to have involved 18
people near Alkaleri Local
Government Area of Bauchi
State, when two cars
including a Volkswagen Golf
and a Honda had a head-on
collision.
Briefing newsmen over the
incident in Bauchi, the Acting
Sector Commandant of the
Federal Road Safety Corps,
Mahmud Kachalla said the
accident occured in the
afternoon between
Tsohuwar Gwaram village
and Alkaleri town in Bauchi
state and it involved 18
people in both the
Volkswagon Golf car,  a
Honda  and a  motorcycle.
Kachalla said, among the 10
people that lost their lives
were five female adults, three
male adults, a boy and a girl.
He also said that out of the
eight that sustained injuries,
''five were male adults and
one a female adult and two
boys." He attributed the
cause of the accident to both
over speeding and over
loading, adding that the Golf
car had eight people who
were coming from a
condolence visit in Jigawa
State and on their way to
Alkaleri.
Kachalla said that FRSC
personnel stationed in
Alkaleri rescued the the
injured victims and rushed
them to the Alkaleri General
Hospital for medical
treatment. He then advised
motorist to always obey
traffic regulations to reduce
the rate of accident along the
highways especially during
this festivity period when
there is mass movement of
people.
